About Bobby

At this site, I wear multiple hats, those of husband, father, apologist, author, speaker, and friend. Here, it’s my desire as a once seemingly hopeless doubter to help make sense of Christianity to those plagued by gnawing questions. Here’s a little taste of my story. In short, I grew up in the land of fruit and nuts. That’s right, you guessed it. California! I wish I could give you a list of all my great credentials growing up. Unfortunately, I can’t. I earned a summa cum laude in sin. If I had to give you a list of words to describe me before becoming a Christian it would look something like this: insecure, angry, confused, uneducated, promiscuous, boozer, addictive, foolish, rebellious, and a decent baseball player.

Obviously, this is a recipe for disaster. While living in Southern California at the age of nineteen my college baseball teammate took me to hear an evangelist by the name of Greg Laurie. I resonated with Greg—a recovering pothead, laid back, and a blue jean wearing Bible teaching evangelist. His message resonated and soon afterward I was following Jesus.

Education

After becoming a Christian and cleaning my life up, I developed such a passion for God that I couldn’t imagine doing anything but full-time ministry. I hung up the cleats and headed off to Conway, Arkansas where I would eventually go to Bible College. During my time there I served as a staff evangelist and a teaching pastor. With a desire to be further trained for ministry, I went to Dallas Theological Seminary, where I earned my Master of Theology. I also have a Doctor of Ministry degree in Apologetics from Southern Evangelical Seminary and earned my Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion from the University of Birmingham in England where I was supervised under David Cheetham and Yujin Nagasawa

Family

Since 1996, I’ve been married to my bride Heather, and together we have two grown children: Dawson and Haley. My wife and I enjoyed speaking on Family Life’s, Weekend to Remember national speaking team for nearly ten years and today I serve as Lead Pastor at Image Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, while also leading a YouTube channel called, Christianity Still Makes Sense, once named, One Minute Apologist. Besides this I co-host a nationally syndicated radio show called, Pastor’s Perspective, a call-in program where people float us their questions about God and the Bible. My hobbies include date nights with my bride, family time with our kids, traveling and reading books, mostly around the topic of philosophy of religion and Christian apologetics!
